Her family waited 13 months for the Unites States to accept their application, rather than going to one of the other countries that offered them asylum. For Kathy and her family, this country is symbolic of hope, opportunity and freedom. She is one of the first two Asian American women elected to the House of Delegates in November 2017.
Kathy couldn’t stand idly by while Donald Trump and Virginia Republicans dismantled the ideals that brought her family to the United States. She ran for the House of Delegates to ensure that all Americans are given the opportunity to achieve the American dream.
She is a graduate of Duke University and holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Kathy began her career in civil service at the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration as a Presidential Management Fellow in 2003. She has also served as the Acting Administrator for the Office of Workforce Investment and the Director of the Division of Policy, Legislation and Regulation.
Kathy then went on to work at the National Immigration Forum, where she advocated for policies that would prepare immigrants in the workforce to reach their full career potential.
She is an advocate of women’s rights and equality, and will work so that all women in Virginia can thrive knowing that they will be free from violence, have equal economic opportunities, and will be able to make important medical decisions with a doctor.
